Tour Description

Enjoy this spectacular full day tour that winds its way through the glorious WA wheat belt to historic York, Hippo's Yawn and Wave Rock. A buffet lunch and a guided tour of Aboriginal sacred sites and cave paintings in Hyden, is followed up with a delightful afternoon tea in Babakin and an opportunity to view the glorious wildflowers that pepper this beautiful landscape.

• Visit historic York to enjoy morning tea, the renowned Dog Cemetery in Corrigan.
• Discover the beauty of the Darling Ranges and the West Australian wheat belt.
• Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at Wave Rock Visitor Centre & Cafe.
• Explore a cultural guided tour of fascinating Hippo’s Yawn, Wave Rock and the cave paintings at Mulka's Cave.
• Visit the small farming community of Babakin for afternoon tea

Departing from Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre or your nearby hotel at around 8am, you will journey eastward through the dappled sunlight of the spectacular Darling Ranges, before stopping in historic York for morning tea (own expense). The first township founded in the Avon Valley, York offers a delightful insight into the days of yore, with turn of the century Victorian buildings and well serviced facilities.

Travelling further east through the wheat belt region, en route to Wave Rock in the small township of Hyden, you will make a stop at the renowned Dog Cemetery in Corrigin, Australia's tribute to its working sheep dogs.

Before enjoying a delicious Aussie Country Style lunch at the Wildflower Shop, you'll visit Hippo’s Yawn, a 13-metre tall natural rock formation, resembling a yawning hippopotamus. The little-known rock near Hyden is defined by the local Aboriginal people as a sacred women's place. After lunch, visit the nearby Wildlife Park for an encounter with some of Australia's unique animals, or enjoy the fascinating Antique Lace Collection.

Next on the agenda is the much anticipated visit to Wave Rock, a flared granite slope, 15 metres high and 110 metres long, with the appearance of a giant breaking wave. Considered to be at least 2 700 million years old, this sacred Aboriginal site is featured in Aboriginal dreamtime stories and is inherent to Aboriginal culture. You will join a cultural tour that will have you fascinated with dreaming stories, history of the area and visits to other special Aboriginal sites, including Gnamma Holes, the Humps and Mulka's Cave. Your guide will talk about the cave paintings at Mulka's Cave that describe the legend of Mulka the Terrible, an Aboriginal outcast.

If time permits here, we will visit either a Wildlife Park, view a unique Antique Lace Collection even featuring lace from Lady Diana, or visit an amazing Toy Soldier Museum.

With the sun setting and nocturnal creatures beginning to appear in the wheat belt, you will return home via a different route via a quaint country town where we will stop for Afternoon Tes (own expense) and some country hospitality. The unique and very rare Western Underground Orchid grows in the area and will make a wonderful photo opportunity if you see one. A stunning array of wildflowers carpet the back roads of the wheat belt (September to November). Roadside stops will be made to view and photograph them in season.

After waving goodbye to the townsfolk, you will return to Perth's city lights through the stunning Darling Ranges, returning to your original pick-up point at around 8:30pm.
